His wife and children his elderly parents And he is right to be scared because the he plays the he and his family are drawn into dangerFinally he is forced to make a terrible choice between staying and waiting to die or saving himself but this would mean abandoning his family Aeham Ahmad's spellbinding and uplifting true story tells of the triumph of love and hope of the incredible bonds of family and the healing power of music in even the very darkest of place. A very poignant true story I was touched by the struggle to survive that was going on at the same time as normal life just down the road in Damascus Truly terrible and horribly reminiscent of the film The PianistMr Ahmad tells an amazing story from his childhood when his blind violin playing father obliged him to learn an instrument encouraging him cajoling him even during the painful teenage years when he wanted to give up and join the others in having fun Then he started to make it at the music school and dream of becoming a musician Just when his life was on an encouraging path the war struck and sent the inhabitants of Yarmouk into free fallWhat happened next is heart rending and told in such an evocative wayI m so glad Mr Ahmad and his family are now in safety

Likeable hero dragged out the first half, his music education driven by his father. Second half, was the destruction of Syria with competing unidentifiable groups sniping, betraying, corrupting he and his family efforts to stay alive and finally escape.
Difficult to follow, difficult to understand. Germany was wonderful absorbing all those refugees.

Gives an excellent feel for the ordinary, in this case extraordinary, person living through the hell that is the Syrian conflict. Restored faith in some of humankind while exposing how appalling others are. Should be read critically by all with extremely leanings and as an uplifting story of survival.

The power of the human spirit is personified in this tale. A Palestinian refugee family exist in yarmouk ( a suburb of Damascus). Aeham's blind dad persuades him to learn the piano. The music becomes Aeham's survival, keeping the spirits up of the refugees under siege in Yarmouk. Gives an insight into war torn Sierra.

A very hard read telling of the war in Syria and how Aeham escaped eventually and managed to get his family to join him in Germany. The war still continues and he tours playing concerts to raise awareness and money for Syria.
