OL from the military hospital Physically and mentally scarred he returns home to his grandmother’s isolated cottage and finds a beautiful haunted stranger insideLike recognizes likeLia Stewart’s in hiding from the cartel she barely escaped alive holed up in this small Rocky Mountain town Surviving but only just Helping the w. WOW What an amazing debut novel This is definitely not a nice romance it is a suspense filled stunning novel which has has well portrayed characters a superb enthralling plot and is a real page turner It has two central characters who are both suffering from PTSD but for very different reasons He was a SEAL who had been seriously wounded both mentally and physically in Afghanistan She has had a father killed in front of her then been physically sexually and emotionally abused before escaping she s now running from her abuser making something of a life for herself but always ready to run again and wary Together they can help each other heal but danger still threatens and trust is always an issue Will they stand a chance to find their HEA or will fate be cruel and intervene preventing their happiness once This is one of those books that I really didn t want to put down till I had finished itWhilst the romance slowly develops and realistically as the two characters help each other heal the novel also deals with some traumatic issues in a manner that explains what happens but certainly doesn t glorify or excuse them Filled with suspense as well as some brilliant banter between the characters it is an engaging read that will stay with me for a long time The range of secondary characters are also well developed with some other veterans with various injuries from their experiences in the arenas of war as well as a delightful brave veterinarian and most amazing of all a German Shepherd assist dog called Neil The traumatic events are fast paced taking the reader into the centre of the action experiencing the drama with the characters It is an action packed read that I have no hesitation in highly recommending it is definitely one of my favourite reads for this year so far and I suspect will still be a favourite for the year

Characters The Asset Wounded Warrior #1

Ounded warrior on her doorstep is the right thing to doit’s loving him that might get them both killedSoon Ash realizes he’s not the only one tormented by the past Pushing the limits of his broken body testing the boundaries of her shattered soul he’ll protect Lia until his last breathThis book is approximately 97000 words. I don t usually read mf romantic suspense but the description of this book reeled me in The heroine Lia is hiding out in a small Rocky Mountain town from a deadly cartel when Ash knocks on her door looking to rent a room She is damaged on the inside but he is damaged inside and out by his service in Afghanistan They recognize something kindred in each other and a friendship is born As it turns into something all of Lia s secrets begin to come out and Ash puts himself on the line to keep her safeOverall I enjoyed the story though I did have a few small complaints Ash is great hero material He is strong but also vulnerable because of his injuries and PTSD At first we really only see the vulnerability in Lia but her strength becomes apparent as her story unfoldsI liked the way the relationship between these two evolved The way Lia took on the role as Ash s caretaker was a little flimsy but otherwise I believed in the steady growth of their relationship I liked their friendship and the little glimpses of something This was a slow burn and it needed to be In fact once we learned the details of Lia s history it was hard for me to believe she could ever let a man touch her at all I like that she had a chance to be a white knight for Ash before he returned the favor to come to her rescue as wellI felt like I really understood Lia s character especially once I learned what happened to her It was a little less so with Ash We know he s a war hero and a good guy but that s about it It s enough I guess for the story s purpose but I would have liked to have known him better especially since he was the draw for me to pick up the book Overall though I liked him and I liked him with Lia which is the most important thingThe things that I liked less about the book all had one thing in common that they felt over the top Lia s history for instance I expected bad but not that bad It was a lot Then there was how Ash resolved things I don t want to spoil the details but again nothing so simple as testifying against the bad guy or just blowing him away It s all so unrealistic Now I said at the beginning that this isn t my normal genre Maybe it s just accepted that you go big or go home But it gave me pauseThe book does live up to the promise of its premise and it s the start of a new series So if wounded warriors are your cuppa tea and you like Dire Circumstances with a side of Extreme Measures I d suggest you give this one a tryRating B ARC provided by publisher
