This book contained two short stories if it was just the first one Return to Promise it'd receive only 2 stars It's not what I'd consider a Christmas story because it ends right before Christmas The rest was about the troubles a ma

Hallmark Channel stuff not that there's anything wrong with that The two stories were fairly predictable but sometimes it's nice to take a break and read something simple The writing is not bad but it's also nothing special The characters are for the most part exactly what you'd expect in a Hallmark movie good moral upstanding but not perfect You immediately know who the bad guys are and who the good guys are I wouldn't go out of

A Country Christmas might be the best Christmas of all Buffalo Valley The town of Buffalo Valley North Dakota a community in farm country is undergoing a revival Vaughn Kyle who's just out of the army is looking for a place to live a life to live While he's waiting for his ambitious fiancée to make up her mind he visits Buffalo Valley one snowy day and meets a young w. Debbie Macomber books are like comfort food for me her books never fail to get me in a positive mood and in particular her christmas books have always been something I can t miss during the holiday season This book is not an exception This book contains two Christmas stories and I enjoyed both of themI found the plot of Buffalo Valley a bit predictable I knew what would happen just by reading the premise yet the slow burn love between Vaughn and Carrie was such a delight to read The story takes place in a small town in North Dakoda where I have never been sadly to say and the descriptions as to how the local people stand together to keep off the evil hand of Value X warmed the cockles of my heart The strong bond type of thing never fails to entertain me Although I was a bit frustrated by Vaughn not owning up to his true feelings until the very end I wanted him to man up and say whatever he needs to say but the ending was very atmospheric and beautiful I liked itThe next story Return to Promise is about a crumbling marriage between a couple of 5 years and I thought this is a story of love and trust With the obnoxious and shameless Nicole Nelson their marriage starts to fray at the seams Jane adamantly believes her husband was cheating on her while Cal tries to keep thing under wraps to spare Jane from fretting over nothing I wasn t particularly sucked in the story in the beginning but the descriptions on how the miscommunication drives their marriage on the rocks was uite engagingAgain I was frustrated by both of the main characters for Cal not speaking up how much he actually loves Jane and his family and that he thinks NOTHING of Nicole for Jane not willing to listen to him preoccupied with her own fears They should have listened to their heart and acted the way their heart spoke to them That said this is something you can only say seeing it from the other side if you are in the thick of a turmoil like this I don t think you can see things from an objective lightFrom that standpoint I think this story is thought provoking It made me think what is most important in relationshipsThe writing was so compelling and engaging I literally gritted my teeth But the dramatic last chapter certainly makes up for my frustration It was worth a read and again it was just beautifulThis is a perfect holiday read I m glad that I read it
